The proposed Master Plan extends from 2013 through 2028 and includes a complete overhaul of the train platforms and development of the air rights above the terminus. While the current plan allows for the original 1908 station building to remain the public face of the facility, the commuter and traveler experience would be revitalized.
Sadly though, at the meeting there was never a mention of Ivy City or the proposed bus depot for its neighborhood due to the updating of Union Station by any of the planners of the open house. The executive board of the civic association, neighborhood residents, other activitist and Empower DC however was on hand to inform attendees of the proposed bus depot and its negative affect on the community.
As an Ivy City resident I wish the Union Station Redevelopment Corporation and others involved in the proposed site selection for this bus depot would have cared as much about our community as their own. Ivy City residents deserved a similar meeting to inform its residents of the effects this new endeavor will have on OUR COMMUNITY.
